Set up an on-call schedule

Alerting and OutcallUpdated Jul 22, 20264 min read

On-call schedules keep one primary responder active for workspace visibility and supported Incident email routing.

Create the primary rotation

Open On-call from the console and choose Manage rotation. Enter a rotation name, an IANA timezone such as America/New_York, the first handoff date, the local handoff time, and the interval in weeks. Select at least one workspace member and give each selected member a unique order. Enable rotation coverage, then save the rotation. Turning rotation coverage off removes the active and upcoming schedule until coverage is enabled again.

niceuptime stores the schedule as durable UTC assignments while preserving the configured local handoff time across daylight-saving changes. If a handoff falls in a skipped local-time gap, it moves to the first valid minute. If a local time occurs twice, the earlier occurrence is used.

Add a temporary override

Choose Add override, select a workspace member, enter the exact UTC start time, and provide an audit reason. The override replaces the generated assignment from that moment until the next assignment begins. Both rotation changes and overrides are written to the workspace audit log.

Understand notification routing

See Incident email notifications for the recipient order, fallback behavior, and notification-preference policy. An on-call schedule does not configure provider channels.
